Gens, the two families

Join Duprian or Vanert, earn contribution in Vulcanus and climb the ranks.

Updated:

The Gens are two rival families, Duprian and Vanert. Once you join one, every member of the other becomes your rival in Vulcanus, where defeating them earns you contribution points and a better rank.

Where to join

  • Gens Duprian is in Lorencia.
  • Gens Vanert is in Noria.

Talk to the NPC of the family you want and choose to join.

Requirements

  • You need to be at least level 50.
  • You can’t be in a party.
  • You can’t belong to a guild, as its master or as a member. Join your Gens first and the guild afterwards.

You start with 10 contribution points and the lowest rank.

Leaving your Gens

You can only leave by talking to your own family’s NPC. Leaving resets your contribution to zero. You can join again right away, the same family or the other one: there’s no waiting period. A guild master can’t leave their Gens.

The battle zone: Vulcanus

Only Gens members can enter Vulcanus. There, killing a member of the other family doesn’t make you a player killer (PK) and changes both players’ contribution.

How many points you earn depends on your level compared with your rival’s:

Your rival is… You gain Your rival loses
more than 50 levels above you 7 3
11 to 50 levels above you 6 3
within 10 levels of you 5 3
11 to 30 levels below you 3 3
31 to 50 levels below you 2 1
more than 50 levels below you 1 1

If your rival holds a better rank than yours, you earn extra: +3 when they’re one rank above you, +4 for two and +5 for three or more. From rank 9 down, that extra is +1, +2 and +3.

Worth knowing:

  • A rival with no points left gives you nothing.
  • Killing the same character over and over stops paying: from the 3rd kill you get a warning, and from the 6th you earn no points for them. The count starts over 60 minutes after your last kill of that character.
  • Kills in a duel don’t count. Kills by your summon count as yours.
  • Your contribution never drops below zero.

Parties

  • You can’t form a party with a member of the other family.
  • There are no parties in Vulcanus: entering it takes you out of yours.

Ranks

There are 14 ranks, from 14 (the lowest) to 1 (Grand Duke). The first ones depend only on your points:

Rank Contribution
14 0
13 500
12 1,500
11 3,000
10 6,000
9 10,000

Ranks 8 to 1 need 10,000 points and a place in your family’s ranking: the top 300 for rank 8, 200 for 7, 100 for 6, 50 for 5, 30 for 4, 10 for 3, 5 for 2, and first place for rank 1.

The ranking is worked out every 2 hours, separately for each family. With equal points, whoever joined first comes first.

The ranking rewards the NPC offers aren’t available yet.
