Playing in the browser

How to get into the game with nothing to install, and what to expect from the browser client.

Updated:

MU Dawnrise is played straight from the browser, no download needed: click Play now to open the game, pick your server, log in with your account and choose a character. On a modest machine, see the graphics options.

Basic controls

Clicking on the ground walks your character to that spot. Everything else — inventory, character window, skills, chat — works exactly as in any MU Online client.

Sound starts on your first click

Browsers won’t play any sound until you interact with the page: a click, a key press or a tap. Before that, effects are simply silent; the moment you touch anything, they turn on normally.

Switching tabs keeps the game running

If you minimize the window or switch to another tab, your character doesn’t just freeze: the game keeps processing what happens, including the MU Helper (auto-hunt), which runs entirely in your browser and does not depend on the server. Only the on-screen drawing pauses, and it picks back up the moment you look at the tab again.

There’s a limit to this: if the browser discards the tab outright (to save battery or memory) or you close the window, the game stops running, just as any program would.

Chatting with friends

The messenger’s chat rooms work in the browser: open a room with a friend from your friends list and exchange messages normally.

If your connection drops

If your connection is briefly interrupted — or the server restarts — the browser client tries to reconnect you on its own, without needing to reload the page.

Update notices

When a new version of the game is live, an “Update available” notice appears over the screen. Outside of a session (at the login screen or character select) you have to update to continue; during actual play you can dismiss it and keep playing until it’s convenient to leave.
