Graphics options
Smoother play on modest machines. Drop quality in one click with the Low preset, or turn off only what bothers you.
Updated:
If the game doesn’t run smoothly on your machine, you don’t have to put up with it. From the options window you can trade picture quality for frame rate, one effect at a time or all at once.
How to open them
Open the Options window from the game menu and press the Graphics… button. It opens its own window with two presets at the top and one checkbox per effect.
- Low: turns every effect off at once. Pick it if you just want to play smoothly.
- High: turns them all on. It’s the usual picture, the one you see if you never touch anything.
What you can turn off
| Option | What it changes |
|---|---|
| High pixel density | Draws at the full resolution of high-density screens. The biggest cost on a laptop with a sharp display. Applies after reloading the page. |
| Particles | Sparks, smoke and other particles. |
| Sprites and skill effects | The visual effects of skills. |
| Shadows | Character shadows. |
| Item glow | The glow on +7, +15 and excellent items. |
| Wing extra layers | The additional layers of some wings. |
| Trails | The trails left by weapons and effects. |
| Birds and ambience | Birds and ambient creatures. |
| Grass | Grass on the terrain. |
| Long draw distance | How far the world is drawn; the fog adjusts with it. |
Your choice is saved in the browser: next time you log in, the game remembers it.
How much does it help?
In our tests on a machine without a graphics card, the Low preset went from 17 to 28 frames per second at the same resolution. On a high-density screen the difference was more than three times, because resolution is most of the cost. With a strong graphics card the game already runs at its maximum either way.
Tip: if the game is slow from the start, open it with
?quality=lowat the end of the game’s address. That setting only applies to that load and isn’t saved until you change something in the graphics window.
