The Android app

Download MU Dawnrise for Android, install it, and let it fetch the game data and its own updates.

Updated:

On an Android phone, the app is the best way to play MU Dawnrise: full screen, always in landscape, with the same touch controls described in Playing on your phone. It is not on Google Play; you download it from this site. On an iPhone there is no app: play in the browser instead.

What you need: Android 8.0 or newer, about 33 MB for the app and about 565 MB for the game data it downloads the first time you open it. Use Wi-Fi for that first download.

Install it

  1. On your phone, open the home page and tap Download for Android (direct link). The file is MuDawnrise.apk.
  2. Your browser may warn that this kind of file can harm your device. Tap Download anyway: it is the file from this server.
  3. When the download finishes, tap Open in the notification, or find MuDawnrise.apk in your Downloads.
  4. The first time, Android asks you to allow your browser to install unknown apps. Tap Settings, turn on Allow from this source, and go back.
  5. Tap Install. When it is done, tap Open, or find MU Dawnrise among your apps.

Install only the MU Dawnrise you downloaded from mudawnrise.com. Every version is signed with the server’s own key, and an update from anywhere else will not install over it.

If Android warns or blocks the install

  • Google Play Protect may warn about an app from an unknown developer, or offer to scan it. That is because the app does not come from Google Play. Open the warning’s details to continue the install.
  • Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO (HyperOS / MIUI): if the install from the browser is refused, open the File Manager, go to Downloads, and tap MuDawnrise.apk there. Allow the File Manager to install unknown apps when it asks, then tap Install.
  • If your phone does not let you change the unknown apps setting at all (some work or school phones), play in the browser instead.

First launch: the game data

The first time you open the app, it downloads the game data from the server. You see the MU Dawnrise loading picture, a golden bar that fills as it goes, and a line with the percentage and the megabytes downloaded. It is about 565 MB; on Wi-Fi it takes around a minute. When it finishes, the app goes straight on to the login: no need to close it and open it again.

  • If the download is interrupted (no signal, the app closed), the app closes. Open it again and it carries on from where it stopped, without downloading again what it already has.
  • Then log in with your MU Dawnrise account, the same one you use in the browser. No account yet? Create one.

Updates

The app checks for a new version each time you open it.

  1. When one is out, it shows Update available. Tap Update (or Later to keep playing; it asks again next time).
  2. The first time only, Android sends you to a settings page to allow MU Dawnrise to install unknown apps. Turn it on and go back to the app.
  3. The app downloads the new version and shows Ready to install. Tap Install.
  4. Android asks you to confirm the update. Confirm it. If you cancel there, the app offers to try again.

An update keeps your game data: you do not download it all again. When the server’s game data changes, the app also notices it when you open it and downloads only what changed.

Uninstalling

Uninstalling MU Dawnrise removes the app and the game data it downloaded. If you install it again, the game data is downloaded again from the start. Your account and your characters live on the server, so nothing of your progress is lost.
